BLUE HOLE DIVE DELAYS AT CAYE CAULKER

My planned dive trip to the Blue Hole got postponed today. Big Fish Dive Centre in Caye Caulker only runs the trip with a minimum of seven divers due to the high petrol costs of the 4-hour round boat-trip out to the Lighthouse Reef Atoll where the 500-foot deep Blue Hole is located. Unfortunately, only three people signed up for today Friday, which might have left a bitter taste in my mough if it had not been for some more fantastic diving back at Esmeralda with nurse sharks, and then my first close encounter with wild turtles out at Cypress Tunnel.

Any bad feeling about my 1-day delay in getting to the Blue Hole was certainly less bitter than the politically motivated conspiracy theories currently airing on CNN here in Belize, as Republicans accuse the US President of wanting the current oil spill crisis in the Gulf Of Mexico to intensify so he can he it as an excuse no reduce further offshore oil/gas drilling and focus US efforts on renewable energy sources instead.

Watching the angry debates on the television over the last few days has left me wondering why none of the interviewers (Larry King, Anderson Cooper included) posted the question back to the sniping Republicans on what is so wrong with greener, renewable energy sources, particularly if they mean a diver can get to the Blue Hole on the day he originally planned.
