CHRISTMAS IN BOGOTÂ

Christmas here in Bogotá looks like it is going to be quite different to what I am used to. Weather-wise, there is no sign of the snow that has brought the UK to a standstill (again), although there was a mudslide yesterday. Christmas shopping promotions include winning a free puppy if you buy a mobile phone during the festive period. And most worryingly of all, Gloria hadn't even heard of Slade.

A lot of houses started putting up their decorations in mid-November, but we managed to hold off until today. I hadn't helped put up a Christmas tree in many years, but I immediately realised that things haven´t really changed in that time: half the Christmas lights didn´t work, and pine needles got everywhere, a real achievement given it is an artificial tree.

Similar to Spain, Christmas is celebrated in Colombia on the evening of the 24th rather than on the 25th, which gives me precisely 24 days to work out what Chrimbo present to get Gloria before I can relax and enjoy a nice mince pie natilla buñuelo.
